Receive-Only Speaker for the DSTIKE ESP32 Walkie-Talkie

The DSTIKE ESP32 Walkie-Talkie Speaker is a compact, USB-powered wireless receiver designed as a companion to the DSTIKE ESP32 Walkie-Talkie.

It receives digital voice transmissions from a compatible DSTIKE device over ESP-NOW and plays them through an integrated 4Ω/3W speaker. No Wi-Fi router, internet connection, SIM card or mobile service is required.

Important: This is a receive-only device. It does not contain a microphone or PTT button and cannot transmit voice or reply to the sender. A compatible transmitting device is required and sold separately.

How It Works

The receiver listens for compatible ESP-NOW voice transmissions on the selected preset channel.

When a matching DSTIKE Walkie-Talkie transmits, the speaker receives the digital audio data and plays the voice message through its integrated speaker. When the transmission ends, it returns to standby.

The transmitting walkie-talkie and receive-only speaker must:

• Use compatible DSTIKE firmware

• Use the same ESP-NOW communication protocol

• Be set to the same preset channel

• Be within a suitable reception range

ESP-NOW provides direct device-to-device communication over the 2.4 GHz radio band, so a wireless router is not required.

Receive-Only Operation

This product is designed for situations where audio only needs to travel in one direction.

It can be used as:

• A fixed listening point for a DSTIKE Walkie-Talkie

• A louder external receiver in a workshop

• A classroom ESP-NOW demonstration

• A one-way announcement receiver

• A development platform for wireless audio experiments

It cannot be used for a two-way conversation by itself. For two-way communication, use two compatible DSTIKE ESP32 Walkie-Talkies.

10 Preset Channels

The receiver supports the same 10 preset channels as the compatible DSTIKE Walkie-Talkie.

A recessed channel-selection button is located behind the small access hole in the enclosure. Use a thin, non-conductive tool or suitable pin to press the button gently and change the channel.

The speaker and transmitting device must be set to the same channel. If no audio is received, confirm the channel setting on both devices before checking other possible causes.

Do not insert the tool too deeply or force the button, as this may damage the internal components.

Status Indicator

The onboard indicator shows the current operating state:

• Green: Powered on and standing by

• Blue: Receiving and playing audio

Indicator behavior can be changed through custom firmware.

Integrated 4Ω/3W Speaker

The built-in 4Ω/3W speaker provides clearer and louder voice playback than a small buzzer.

It is designed for speech, notifications and maker-project audio rather than full-range music reproduction. Perceived volume and audio quality depend on the transmitted signal, USB power quality, firmware settings and surrounding environment.

USB-Powered Operation

The receiver operates from a continuous 5V USB-A power source.

It can be connected to a suitable:

• USB wall adapter

• Powered USB hub

• Computer USB port

• USB power bank

• Other stable 5V USB power source

The USB connection supplies power during normal use. The factory firmware does not make the product a USB speaker or USB sound card, and it does not play computer audio through USB.

The device does not contain a rechargeable battery.

Reception Range

Under open, low-interference and line-of-sight conditions, the maximum tested reception range can reach approximately 150 meters.

Actual range depends on:

• Walls, floors and buildings

• Antenna orientation

• Nearby Wi-Fi networks

• Other 2.4 GHz devices

• Electrical interference

• Transmitting-device placement

• USB power quality

• Local environmental conditions

The stated distance is an approximate test result under favorable conditions and is not guaranteed in every location. Indoor range will normally be shorter.

Compatibility

This receiver is designed for compatible DSTIKE ESP32 Walkie-Talkies using matching firmware and channel settings.

It is not compatible with:

• Conventional analog walkie-talkies

• FRS radios

• GMRS radios

• PMR446 radios

• CB radios

• DMR radios

• Amateur radio transceivers

• Bluetooth audio transmitters

• Cellular push-to-talk services

• Standard Wi-Fi audio or casting systems

It is also not a general-purpose Bluetooth speaker, internet radio or USB computer speaker under the factory firmware.

Uploading custom firmware will overwrite the factory program. Back up the original files and confirm the correct board and pin configuration before programming.

• The ESP32-WROOM-DA module has reached End of Life, so future availability of this exact hardware version may be limited.

• Because the enclosure is 3D printed, minor layer lines and small surface variations are normal.

Safety and Handling

• Use a stable 5V USB power source.

• Keep the device away from water and high temperatures.

• Do not place exposed connectors against conductive objects.

• Disconnect USB power before opening or modifying the enclosure.

• Do not sharply bend or damage internal wiring.

• Stop using the device if the board, speaker or USB connector becomes unusually hot.

• Custom hardware and firmware modifications are performed at the user’s own risk.
