Compact USB-Powered Wi-Fi Internet Radio

The DSTIKE USB Wi-Fi Internet Radio is a compact ESP32-S3 streaming audio player that connects to the internet through Wi-Fi and plays online radio stations through its integrated speaker.

Plug it into a 5V USB power source, connect it to a compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and select a station using the onboard button. Your station list is stored on the included microSD card and can be edited to add compatible streaming URLs from around the world.

The product is supplied as a simple ready-to-assemble kit with an external flexible antenna, speaker and protective enclosure.

How It Works

The radio reads a list of streaming URLs from a text file stored on the included microSD card.

After connecting to Wi-Fi, it opens the selected stream and plays the audio through the integrated speaker. Press the station button to move through the saved list.

An active internet connection is required. This product receives online audio streams—it does not contain a traditional FM or AM tuner.

Customizable Station List

You are not limited to a fixed selection of stations.

To change the list:

  1. Remove the microSD card from the radio.

  2. Insert it into a compatible card reader.

  3. Open the station configuration text file.

  4. Add or replace the compatible streaming URLs.

  5. Save the file and return the card to the radio.

  6. Restart the device.

Use direct audio-stream URLs rather than links to station websites, mobile apps or playlist pages.

Stream compatibility depends on the station’s audio format, server configuration, URL availability and the installed firmware. Online stations may change or discontinue their stream addresses without notice.

Wi-Fi Setup

On first use, the radio must be connected to a compatible Wi-Fi network through its configuration mode.

General setup process:

  1. Assemble the radio and install the included microSD card.

  2. Connect it to a stable 5V USB power source.

  3. Enter Wi-Fi configuration mode if necessary.

  4. Use a phone or computer to open the device’s setup portal.

  5. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter its password.

  6. Wait for the radio to connect and begin streaming.

The radio supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. It does not support 5 GHz-only networks.

Public networks that require a browser login, enterprise authentication or a captive portal may not be compatible.

Physical Controls

Top Button

Press to move to the next station in the saved playlist.

Bottom-Right Button

Press and hold to erase the saved Wi-Fi credentials and return the device to Wi-Fi configuration mode.

Use this when moving the radio to a different network or changing the router password.

Bottom-Left Button

Press briefly to restart the radio.

Restarting can be useful after editing the station list or changing the microSD card.

RGB Status Indicator

The onboard LED provides visual operating information:

  • Solid red: Searching for or connecting to Wi-Fi

  • Rainbow waterfall effect: Connected and streaming

Indicator behavior may vary if the firmware is updated or modified.

External Wi-Fi Antenna

The included flexible PCB antenna connects through the board’s IPEX antenna connector.

Compared with a small antenna placed directly inside a compact enclosure, the flexible antenna can be positioned to improve reception and connection stability.

Actual performance depends on:

  • Distance from the Wi-Fi router

  • Walls and other obstacles

  • Antenna placement

  • Nearby 2.4 GHz interference

  • Router configuration

  • USB power quality

  • Local environmental conditions

Do not sharply fold, puncture or place the antenna directly against large metal surfaces.

Integrated Speaker and Enclosure

The compact speaker fits inside the supplied white enclosure. The enclosure protects the main components and forms a small acoustic cavity around the speaker.

The radio is designed for personal desktop listening, spoken-word stations, news and background music. It is not intended to replace a high-power home audio system.

Assembly

Basic assembly is required before use:

  1. Connect the external flexible antenna carefully.

  2. Connect and position the speaker.

  3. Insert the microSD card.

  4. Use the supplied double-sided tape to secure the internal components where required.

  5. Fit the main board into the enclosure.

  6. Close the top and bottom sections.

  7. Connect the radio to USB power.

Align connectors carefully and do not pull on the antenna cable. Check that no wires are pinched before closing the enclosure.

Important Compatibility Notes

  • Requires a continuous 5V USB power connection.

  • Does not contain a rechargeable battery.

  • Does not receive conventional FM, AM, DAB or satellite radio.

  • The factory function is Wi-Fi internet radio, not Bluetooth speaker playback.

  • The USB connection supplies power during normal radio use; the product is not a USB audio adapter.

  • Station website links are not the same as direct audio-stream URLs.

  • Stream availability and compatibility are controlled by third-party station providers.

  • Some protected, subscription-based or app-only streams may not work.

  • Custom station configuration requires basic text-file editing.

Safety and Handling

  • Use a stable 5V USB power source.

  • Keep the device away from water and high temperatures.

  • Do not place exposed components on conductive surfaces.

  • Disconnect USB power before assembling or repositioning internal parts.

  • Do not pull the antenna by its cable.

  • Stop using the device if the board, connector or speaker becomes unusually hot.

  • This is a maker-oriented electronics kit and is not intended as a toy.
