Portable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Management-Frame Detector

DSTIKE Deauth Detector V3 is a compact ESP8266-based monitoring device designed to detect unusual concentrations of compatible Wi-Fi deauthentication and disassociation frames.

When the configured detection threshold is reached, the status LED changes from green to red and the built-in buzzer sounds, providing a clear visual and audible alert.

Simply connect the device to a compatible USB power source. The detector starts monitoring automatically without requiring an app, account, display, or complicated configuration.

What Does It Detect?

Wi-Fi access points and client devices use management frames to control connections. Deauthentication and disassociation frames can occur during normal network operation, but an unusually high packet rate may also indicate an intentional disruption attempt or a network configuration problem.

Deauth Detector V3 passively monitors compatible 2.4GHz management-frame activity and provides an alert when the firmware’s detection conditions are met.

The device is based on the open-source SpacehuhnTech DeauthDetector project, which is designed to identify deauthentication and disassociation frames using an ESP8266.

Simple LED and Buzzer Alerts

The detector uses an easy-to-understand status system:

  • Green LED: Monitoring is active

  • Red LED: The configured detection threshold has been reached

  • Buzzer alert: Audible notification of detected activity

The LED and buzzer make the detector useful in environments where continuously checking a computer or phone is inconvenient.

Plug In and Start Monitoring

Deauth Detector V3 is pre-flashed with compatible detector firmware.

To begin:

  1. Connect it to a suitable USB power source.

  2. Wait for the green monitoring indicator.

  3. The red LED and buzzer will activate when qualifying activity is detected.

It can be powered from sources such as:

  • A USB power adapter

  • A computer USB port

  • A compatible USB power bank

No Wi-Fi password, mobile application, or user account is required for basic detection.

What’s New in Version 3?

Deauth Detector V3 includes:

  • ESP8266 controller with 4MB flash memory

  • Redesigned all-white enclosure

  • Integrated antenna designed to operate through the non-metal enclosure

  • High-visibility RGB status indicator

  • Built-in audible buzzer

  • Detector firmware preinstalled

  • Compact USB-powered construction

The lightweight enclosed design makes it suitable for desks, classrooms, network laboratories, equipment rooms, and portable demonstrations.

Key Features

Passive Monitoring Function

The detector’s intended purpose is to observe compatible management-frame activity and provide an alert. It does not actively prevent, block, or respond to the detected frames.

Visual and Audible Notification

The combination of an RGB LED and buzzer provides a more noticeable warning than an LED-only development board.

No Complex Setup

The firmware is preinstalled, allowing the device to begin monitoring after power is connected.

Compact Enclosed Design

The white enclosure protects the electronics and provides a cleaner appearance than an exposed development board.

ESP8266 Development Platform

Advanced users can reprogram the ESP8266 and use the hardware for compatible custom projects involving:

  • RGB LED control

  • Buzzer experiments

  • Wi-Fi management-frame education

  • Portable status indicators

  • Arduino and ESP8266 programming

  • Custom monitoring firmware

Installing custom firmware will overwrite the preinstalled detector software.

Recommended Applications

Deauth Detector V3 is suitable for:

  • Wireless security education

  • Authorized network monitoring

  • Classroom demonstrations

  • ESP8266 development practice

  • Home-lab experiments

  • Network troubleshooting

  • Demonstrating 802.11 management-frame behavior

  • Evaluating alerts during controlled and authorized tests

Deauth Detector vs. Deauther Products

These products are designed for different purposes.

Choose Deauth Detector V3 if you want:

  • Passive detection and alerting

  • A simple green/red status indicator

  • An audible warning

  • Automatic operation after connecting power

  • A compact and affordable monitoring device

  • An ESP8266 platform that can be reprogrammed

Choose a DSTIKE Deauther development product if you need:

  • Wireless signal scanning

  • A display and physical controls

  • Controlled protocol testing on authorized equipment

  • More extensive development and diagnostic functions

Deauth Detector V3 is primarily an alert device. It does not include a display or the interactive menus found on DSTIKE Deauther boards and watches.

Important Detection Limitations

Deauth Detector V3 is an educational and supplementary monitoring device. It should not be treated as a complete wireless intrusion-detection or prevention system.

Please understand the following limitations:

  • It supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only

  • It cannot monitor 5GHz or 6GHz Wi-Fi channels

  • It does not detect every type of wireless interference or network problem

  • Channel hopping may prevent the device from observing every individual frame

  • Detection distance depends on signal strength, antenna orientation, obstacles, interference, and the surrounding environment

  • It cannot identify the person or device responsible for a detected frame

  • An alert does not prove that malicious activity has occurred

  • Legitimate roaming, access-point restarts, client reconnections, maintenance, and compatibility issues may produce deauthentication or disassociation frames

  • It does not stop, block, trace, or automatically respond to detected activity

  • It does not replace router logs, packet analysis, enterprise wireless monitoring, or professional security systems

An alert should be treated as a reason to investigate the network—not as definitive evidence of an attack.

Protected Management Frames

Modern networks may use Protected Management Frames, including IEEE 802.11w/PMF, to reduce the risk of forged management-frame disruption.

For improved network protection, users should:

  • Enable PMF when supported

  • Use WPA2 or WPA3 with current firmware

  • Replace outdated access points and client devices

  • Review router logs and unexpected reconnection events

  • Use professional monitoring tools when detailed investigation is required

This detector does not bypass PMF and does not guarantee that a network is protected.

Important Frequency Notice

Deauth Detector V3 supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only.

It does not support:

  • 5GHz Wi-Fi

  • 6GHz Wi-Fi

  • Wi-Fi 6E monitoring

  • 5G cellular networks

  • SIM cards or mobile data

  • Bluetooth interference detection

  • Broadband radio-frequency analysis
