The DSTIKE ESP32-DA is a compact, USB-powered Bluetooth speaker built around the ESP32-WROOM-DA-N16 module and MAX98357 digital I2S amplifier.

Connect it to a 5V USB power source, pair your phone or computer with DSTIKE-DA, and play audio through the integrated speaker. The open-source hardware and firmware also make it a practical platform for experimenting with Bluetooth audio, I2S output and custom ESP32 applications.

USB-Powered Bluetooth Audio

The speaker operates from a standard 5V USB power source and receives audio wirelessly over Bluetooth.

Basic setup:

  1. Connect the speaker to a suitable 5V USB power source.

  2. Wait for the status LED to turn red.

  3. Open the Bluetooth settings on your phone, tablet or computer.

  4. Select DSTIKE-DA.

  5. When connected, the status LED turns green.

  6. Start playing audio from the connected device.

The USB-A connection supplies power. The factory firmware does not make the device a USB sound card, and audio is not transmitted through the USB connection.

A USB power adapter or powered USB port is required.

Dual-Antenna ESP32-WROOM-DA Module

The ESP32-WROOM-DA uses two complementary onboard PCB antennas together with an antenna-diversity design.

Compared with a conventional single-antenna layout, this design can improve Bluetooth connection stability when device orientation, nearby objects or signal reflections affect reception. It is especially useful for desktop installations where the speaker or connected device may be moved or partially obstructed.

Actual Bluetooth range depends on:

  • The transmitting device

  • Device orientation

  • Walls and other obstacles

  • Nearby 2.4 GHz wireless activity

  • Electrical interference

  • USB power quality

  • Local environmental conditions

No fixed connection distance is guaranteed. For best results, keep the speaker away from large metal objects and avoid covering the antenna area.

Digital I2S Audio

Audio data is sent digitally from the ESP32 to the MAX98357 through the I2S interface.

The integrated amplifier drives the onboard compact speaker, providing clearer music and voice playback than a simple buzzer-based ESP32 project.

This is a compact mono development speaker intended for desktop listening, demonstrations and embedded-audio experiments. It is not designed to replace a high-power stereo or home audio system.

16MB Flash Memory

The ESP32-WROOM-DA-N16 provides 16MB of flash memory, offering more space than common 4MB ESP32 modules.

The additional capacity can be used for projects involving:

  • Larger custom firmware

  • Web interface files

  • Audio prompts and sound effects

  • Local data storage

  • Multiple application partitions

  • Over-the-air update partitions

  • ESPHome or IoT experiments

Available storage depends on the selected flash-partition layout. Local MP3 or WAV playback is not included in the factory firmware and requires custom development.

Connection Status Indicator

The onboard status indicator provides quick visual feedback:

  • Red: Powered on and waiting for a Bluetooth connection

  • Green: Bluetooth device connected

Status behavior can be changed by modifying the open-source firmware.

The ESP32-WROOM-DA module has reached End of Life according to Espressif.

This does not affect the normal operation of the product, but future availability of this exact hardware version may be limited.
