DSTIKE HACKHELD is a compact, open-source ESP8266 handheld designed for wireless education, firmware development, network diagnostics, and authorized 2.4GHz security assessment.

It combines a 1.3-inch OLED display, six physical control buttons, an addressable RGB LED, USB-C connectivity, and a transparent handheld enclosure. Compatible ESP8266 Deauther firmware is preinstalled, so you can begin exploring supported functions without assembling a separate development setup.

HACKHELD can also be reprogrammed and used like a standard ESP8266 development board, making it a practical platform for custom firmware, portable electronics projects, and open-source experimentation.

What Can It Do?

Depending on the installed firmware, HACKHELD supports functions such as:

  • Scanning nearby 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signals

  • Reviewing access-point identifiers and channel information

  • Monitoring selected wireless packet activity

  • Visualizing traffic and channel activity on the OLED display

  • Demonstrating beacon and probe-frame behavior in a controlled environment

HACKHELD was designed around the open-source SpacehuhnTech HackHeld project, providing a ready-to-use handheld platform for the ESP8266 development and wireless-learning community.

Instead of combining a separate ESP8266 board, display, buttons, battery circuit, and enclosure, HACKHELD integrates the essential components into one portable device.

Important Wireless Compatibility Notice

HACKHELD supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only.

It does not support:

  • 5GHz Wi-Fi

  • 6GHz Wi-Fi

  • Wi-Fi 6E

  • 5G cellular networks

  • SIM cards or mobile data

Controlled packet-testing results can be affected by the selected channel, network hardware, regional configuration, firmware version, and security settings.

Networks using Protected Management Frames, including IEEE 802.11w/PMF, may limit or prevent certain management-frame assessment functions. HACKHELD does not bypass PMF protection.

Firmware Notice

The device ships with compatible ESP8266 Deauther firmware preinstalled. Because this is an open-source firmware ecosystem:

  • Menus and functions may change between versions

  • Experimental firmware may contain bugs

  • Custom flashing can overwrite the factory-installed firmware

  • Incorrect firmware or settings may cause unexpected behavior

Users should back up important configurations and follow the relevant firmware documentation before installing custom software.
