Compact ESP8266 Platform for Wireless Learning and Development

DSTIKE Deauther MiNi V4 is a compact, open-source ESP8266 development board designed for wireless education, firmware experimentation, network diagnostics, and authorized 2.4GHz security assessment.

It combines a 1.3-inch OLED display, three physical control buttons, an addressable RGB LED, a high-brightness LED, onboard battery charging, and an external antenna connector in a pocket-sized platform.

Compatible ESP8266 Deauther firmware is preinstalled, allowing supported functions to be operated directly from the display and buttons. No phone or computer is required for basic standalone operation.

MiNi V4 can also be reprogrammed like a conventional ESP8266 development board, making it suitable for custom firmware, Arduino projects, portable wireless tools, and electronics education.

What’s New in Version 4?

Compared with Deauther MiNi V3, the V4 hardware includes several important improvements:

  • The previous PH2.0 battery connector has been replaced with a smaller PH1.25 connector

  • Updated battery-connector orientation

  • Added input-protection diode to help prevent current from flowing back into the USB connection

  • Repositioned onboard components for improved layout and heat dissipation

  • Re-optimized charging circuit for more stable operation

  • Updated packaging and instruction manual

Battery Compatibility Warning

MiNi V4 uses a different battery connector from MiNi V3. Do not connect an older battery without confirming the connector type and polarity.

Battery-connector polarity should always be checked before connection. Incorrect polarity may permanently damage the board and is not covered as a manufacturing defect.

Supported Learning and Assessment Functions

Available functions depend on the installed firmware version and configuration.

2.4GHz Wi-Fi Scanning

Scan nearby compatible 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signals and review information such as network identifiers, channels, and signal activity.

Packet Monitoring

Observe selected packet and channel activity to better understand how nearby 2.4GHz wireless environments behave.

Management-Frame Resilience Testing

Evaluate how equipment on an authorized test network responds to selected 802.11 management frames.

This function is intended to help network owners identify older equipment that may not support modern management-frame protection.

Beacon-Frame Demonstration

Demonstrate how beacon frames are used to advertise wireless network information in a controlled laboratory environment.

Probe-Frame Demonstration

Explore how compatible client devices use probe requests while searching for known wireless networks.

These functions do not reveal Wi-Fi passwords, decrypt protected traffic, or provide access to secured networks.

Designed for Standalone Operation

The OLED display and onboard buttons allow supported functions to be controlled directly from the board.

  • Up button: Navigate upward

  • Down button: Navigate downward

  • Select button: Confirm or open the selected option

Menu design and button behavior may vary with different firmware versions.

Hardware Highlights

1.3-Inch OLED Display

The high-contrast SH1106 monochrome OLED provides a clear interface for menus, scan information, status messages, and custom applications.

External Antenna Connector

The external antenna interface allows users to install a compatible antenna for their intended development environment.

Wireless performance depends on antenna type, frequency matching, orientation, surrounding interference, firmware configuration, and local regulatory limits. A higher-gain antenna does not guarantee better results in every environment.

Integrated Battery Support

The onboard charging and power-management circuit supports a compatible single-cell LiPo battery through the PH1.25 connector.

The Board Only option does not include a battery or enclosure. Select the Kit option if you require the compatible battery and case.

RGB and High-Brightness LEDs

MiNi V4 includes:

  • WS2812B addressable RGB LED for programmable status indication

  • High-brightness LED for lighting or custom firmware functions

Both LEDs can be controlled through custom ESP8266 applications.

Open-Source and Reprogrammable

MiNi V4 is more than a preconfigured wireless tool. It can be used as an ESP8266 development board and programmed with compatible tools such as the Arduino IDE.

Possible development projects include:

  • Portable Wi-Fi signal monitors

  • Channel-activity displays

  • Custom OLED menu systems

  • Battery-powered sensor projects

  • RGB status indicators

  • Electronics and embedded-programming exercises

The board schematic is available from the DSTIKE Deauther MiNi V4 GitHub repository.

The preinstalled firmware is based on the open-source SpacehuhnTech ESP8266 Deauther project.

Network Compatibility and PMF Notice

Controlled management-frame testing results depend on the selected channel, access point, client hardware, regional configuration, firmware version, and network-security settings.

Networks using Protected Management Frames—including IEEE 802.11w, PMF Capable, or PMF Required—may limit or prevent certain assessment functions.

MiNi V4 does not bypass Protected Management Frames or other Wi-Fi security protections.

Firmware Notice

Because this product uses an open-source firmware ecosystem:

  • Functions and menus may vary between firmware versions

  • Experimental firmware may contain bugs

  • Installing custom firmware will overwrite the preinstalled software

  • Incorrect flashing or configuration may cause unexpected behavior

  • Some functions may not work with modern protected equipment

Back up important settings and review the relevant firmware documentation before installing custom software.
